Modified Eureka Beacon RT-44/PPN-1A

This, I believe, is a very rare early American WWII Eureka Beacon - the RT-44/PPN-1A which has been modified for pre-set single-channel use. As with the PPN-1A and PPN-2, the equipment would generally taken in by a pathfinder parachutist or be deployed by a member of the underground, and would be interrogated by the airborne Rebecca homing equipment to guide an aircraft to the Dropping Zone (DZ).

Some PPN-1As were modified to single channel operation (214/219MHz) for use by agents and partisans supported by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). It is likely that this particular radio is one of those sets. There is an interesting article HERE which covers the requirement for single-channel beacons.
