3 OCTOBER 2007

Some more pictures have been added into the gallery. A few new ones appear in the 'Vigilant In The Air Section' and most notably there is now a gallery from the annual 'Shawbury Weekend'. There is also a section for 'Visiting Aircraft'. These are pictures of some of the aircraft that have visited the airfield.

 

29 SEPTEMBER 2007

Congratulations are due to Cadet Wright for flying a solo circuit and being awarded her Silver Wings.

 

22 SEPTEMBER 2007

Congratulations to Cadet Guy from Staffordshire Wing for being awarded his Silver Wings after flying his first solo. Well done.

 

15-16 SEPTEMBER 2007

    Well done to the five Gliding Scholarship cadets who flew solo over the weekend and were awarded their Silver Wings. Congratulations on your achievement.

 

AUGUST COURSE 2007

The August Gliding Scholarship course was a success as 6 Silver Wings for solos and a set of Blue Wings for a ghost solo were awarded. Four of students will be coming back to hopefully go solo weekend after aircraft availability, the airfield state and a freshening cross-wind put paid to the last part of the course. AWO Ray Smith was on hand to do his usual excellent job as course adjutant. He also drove over 820 miles just to make sure he could be here as he had to go back to work part way through the course. A collective thank-you for your efforts, Ray once again. Also, at the end of the course ZH120 was transferred to 632 VGS at RLG Turnhill on a permanent basis.

 

AUGUST 2007

Congratulations to Tom Turner who will start Officer Training with the Navy next month. We wish you all the best of luck in the future and hopefully will see you again soon.

 

12 AUGUST 2007

A Staffordshire Wing ATC cadet completed her Gliding Scholarship today and was awarded her Wings for flying a ghosted solo. Well done.

 

5 AUGUST 2007

Congratulations to the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing cadet who was awarded her Blue Wings after successfully completing her Gliding Scholarship and flying a ghost solo. Best of luck with your future career in the RAF too.

 

14-15 JULY 2007 - RAF SHAWBURY WEEKEND

633 VGS made its annual detachment to RAF Shawbury over the weekend due to the Large Model Association's model aircraft display at Cosford. The Sqn flew 59 cadets on Gliding Induction Courses on the Saturday however Sunday was a washout due to the heavy rain the hit the country. Pictures from the weekend will be put on the gallery shortly.

 

13 JULY 2007   

Flying Officer Chris Turner was awarded his A2 Instructors category this week by Central Flying School(GE Wing) after attending his course at ACCGS, RAF Syerston. This will now allow Fg Off Turner to send cadets on their first solos.

 

8 JULY 2007

Congratulations are due to CGI Jim Merson after he was awarded his C-Category Instructors grade after a successful week at the Air Cadet Central Gliding School at RAF Syerston. Also, CGI Rich Smith was re-awarded his Grade One after he rejoined the unit after a 6 month absence due to work commitments.

 

JULY 2007

Some pictures from days gone by have been added to the gallery. These include photos from the 1960s/1970s and some were taken on an advanced soaring weekend at Haseland whilst others at Cosford. Many thanks to Keith Mitchell for providing them.

 

Cosford Air Show 2007

633 VGS were due to fly a 4-ship prelude to the show doing two 20 minute waves of GICs. However due to the low cloud base only one aircraft got airborne to give Cosford Air Traffic Control a weather report in the circuit. Three other aircraft were parked on the flightline with the other aircraft parked in the static display area. A good weekend was had by all and well done to FSC Perry-Swinnerton for organising the BBQ.

 

Whitson Course 2007

Congratulations to all 6 CCF students who flew first solos during the course and successfully gained their Silver Wings. Despite some frustrating weather during the week, the cadets also got a tour round the new Cold War hanger as well as visiting some of the other units based on the station. Once again a massive thanks to AWO Ray Smith for his usual fantastic work as the course adjutant.

 

18-19 May 2007

Two more Silver Wings were presented over the weekend after two more cadets flew their first solos. Well done to both.

 

May 2007

Congratulations to Jose Kishtoo for successfully completing his Air Transport Pilot License course. Jose was a CGI Grade One instructor with 633 for nearly 2 years and will now start his Boeing 757/767 type rating. Well done, you have earned it!

CGI Rob Rose flies out to America this weekend to start his flying training with Thomas Cook. Rob successfully completed his ground training and exams, scoring extremely high on a number of tests and even managing two 100%s. Best of luck and hopefully see you soon!

A good weekend for Silver Wings as two more cadet flew first solos and were presented with their Silver Wings. Congratulations to both.

A set of Blue Wings for a ghost solo were awarded today after a Staffordshire Wing cadet completed her course. Well done.

 

Easter Course 2007 5-10 April

633 VGS had a very successful Easter Course with 7 Silver Wings being awarded for first solos and 1 set of Blue Wings for a ghost solo. Well done to all the trainees on a fantastic achievement. Two of the students who flew solo will also hopefully be becoming Flight Staff Cadets with the unit.

Congratulations to Sgt Rowels on completing his ACT and to FSC Watt for being awarded his Grade 2 Pilot status after a check flight with the Commanding Officer, Sqn Ldr Bullock.
