Ranks in the ATC
Like the RAF, the ATC has a rank structure, this recognises cadets' achievements and helps make it run more efficiently.
Promotion is only awarded as a result of selection by the Squadron Commander and the number of cadets that can be promoted is limited.
CADET CORPORAL (Cdt Cpl)
The first rank you can be promoted
to is CADET CORPORAL, or Corporal for short. A Cdt Cpl should be able to:-
Recognise the need for discipline and be able to apply it with fairness and common sense.
Set a good example for cadets to follow.
Communicate clearly, orally and in writing.
Plan and organise tasks.
Command a drill squad.
SERGEANT (Cdt Sgt)
The
second rank is that of CADET SERGEANT, or Sergeant for short. A Cdt Sgt should
be able to: -
Possess all of the qualities of a cdt cpl.
Set a good example for cadet corporals and cadets to follow.
Will accept a greater amount of responsibility within the squadron.
Show initiative and inspire confidence.
Display a sound understanding of the role and organisation of the corps.
To take part in the organisation of squadron activities.
CADET FLIGHT SERGEANT (Cdt FS)
The third rank you can achieve is
CADET FLIGHT SERGEANT, or Flight Sergeant for short. A Cdt FS should be able to:

Possess all of the qualities of both a Sergeant and Corporal
Set a good example for junior NCO's and cadets to follow.
Display a level of maturity higher than that of other cadets of his/her age.
Have a sound knowledge of the ATC, but in greater depth than that of Sergeant.
CADET WARRANT OFFICER (CWO)
The
highest rank of you can achieve is that of CADET WARRANT OFFICER, or CWO.
A CWO is a junior manager and should possess outstanding leadership abilities and personal qualities. A CWO should have a wide experience of ATC activities, and have a thorough knowledge of the organisation of the Corps. He/she should manage the cadet NCO team and liaise with squadron staff. Service as CWO gives excellent experience for possible subsequent adult uniformed service.
