About the ATC
What is the Air Training Corps ?
The Air Training Corps, also known as the Air Cadets, is a youth organisation open to anyone between the ages of 13 and 18. See the HQAC site for more information on joining - links are above and below.
Most Air Training Corps squadrons meet (or 'parade') on two evenings during the week. Cadets are also able to take part in weekend activities, for example flying, shooting, sports etc, generally away from the squadron headquarters.
Squadrons are run by an officer in the RAFVR(T), supported by other commissioned RAFVR(T) and non-commissioned ACO staff, assisted by Civilian Instructors, who are generally training specialists in a particular field.
Squadrons are also supported by Civilian and Parents' Committees, whose responsibilities include fund raising.
The cost of becoming a cadet is minimal. Uniforms and premises are provided by public funds, the only fees are a nominal weekly amount for 'subs', and occasional charges for external activities, for example D of E Award camp site fees.
The Aims of the Air Training Corps (also known as the Air Cadets) are: -
.....and to have fun !!!!!
There are approximately 1000 squadrons and detached flights located throughout the UK.
So, there is probably
one near
YOU...!

They now fly the CF-18 Hornet from their base at Bagotville in Canada.
